Amy DoyleDr. Amy Torrens - Principal

A daughter of two school superintendents, Dr. Torrens went to high school in Montesano, WA. After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University she moved to southern California to pursue her interest in law. After working for two years as a paralegal, Dr. Torrens returned to school at California State University Northridge to earn her Teaching Certificate, and she taught for 3 years in Glendale and Los Angeles Unified School Districts. After the Northridge earthquake, Dr. Torrens moved back to Washington where she taught at Illahee Junior High in Federal Way School District while earning her Masters in Education Administration and her Principals Credential.

Tahoma School district first hired Dr. Torrens as Tahoma Senior High School’s assistant principal and vocational director. After four years at the high school, she was hired at Cedar River Middle School in 2000 where she helped facilitate the move to Tahoma Middle School. During this time Dr. Torrens went back to school to receive a Superintendent’s Credential and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Washington State University.

Dr. Torrens has twin girls who attend in the school district, so she has a first-hand view of what students experience every day.

Amy Torrens is proud of the Tahoma Middle School staff for their recent award for “Overall Academic Excellence” and “Excellence in Language Arts”. In both categories, the school was the number one performing middle school in the state based on the state index. The staff at Tahoma Middle School is committed and caring. We provide a safe, supportive, and high achieving environment every day.
