Our mission

The Office of Food and Nutrition Services will work to provide nutritious and appetizing meals in a supportive and attractive atmosphere for the students and staff of Tahoma School District No. 409. We will support the education of our children by promoting life-long healthy attitudes and eating habits. We will provide our services in a clean, safe environment and in a cost-effective manner.

The purpose and advantage of school meals

The school breakfast and lunch ensures that your child is receiving nutritionally balanced meals. More variety and an established dietary guideline are easier to achieve through school menus. Also, the subsidized school lunch is less expensive than a lunch of equal nutritional value that is prepared and packed at home.

Our schools receive federal and state funds for every student meal we serve. This reimbursement makes up the difference between what the lunch costs to produce and what the students pay. The amount of federal reimbursement paid per lunch depends on the economic needs of the student.

Parents are encouraged to prepay for student meals. This may save students time in line and helps to increase the efficiency of customer service. For Balance and Transaction information use the New Family On-Line Access at: http://family.tahoma.wa-k12.net

Free and reduced meal plans

Letter to Households/Application
At the start of the school year, free and reduced price meal applications are sent home for parents to complete. Depending on the economic needs of the family, children may receive their meals free or at a reduced price.

Parents should fill out the application carefully, make sure it is complete and return it to their child's school. Returning the application in a timely manner will ensure that children do not lose meal benefits to which they are entitled.

Because the application is a family application, only one application needs to be filled out for all your children enrolled in Tahoma School District. Please use a black or blue ink pen to complete your application. If you make a mistake, just draw a line through the incorrect information; please do not use white-out.

All applications from last year will expire on September 30, 2011 and your children will lose their meal benefits if a new application is not on file.

Click here to download an application form. Applications are also available at all school district offices and processed daily throughout the school year. If you have any questions, please contact Food Services Supervisor Sheri Melewski at 425-413-3450.
