Tahoma School District #409 Welcome to the Tahoma School District 409 Department of Teaching and Learning! We are located in Maple Valley, Washington. Our mission is to support teachers and administrators in their roles to maximize student achievement. We are committed to our students acquiring the six district goals and the state standards as outlined in the Essential Academic Learning Requirements. We provide leadership in the design, development, and selection of curriculum materials, coordinate and deliver staff development for new and experienced educators, and direct the state and district assessments programs. In this section are the elementary Grade Level Basic Skills Curriculum, Reading, Writing, and Mathematics Continuums, information on RAP and Gifted Services, Thinking Skills and more. Grade Level Basic Skills Parent Guides A description by Grade Level of all Reading, Writing, Communications and Mathematics EALRS and the integrated units of study. Included in this section are descriptions of the Grade 7-10 Continuums for Reading, Writing and Math, the Integrated Programs for 9th and 10th graders, the Outdoor Academy, the Challenge Strand, AP courses and College in the Classroom. K-10 Reading, Writing, and Mathematics Continuums A complete list of EALRs for each grade level and subject. The Integrated Math Program at the secondary level is new to the Tahoma School District for the school year 1999-2000. This section describes the changes and how they correlate to the previous math offerings. Test scores for achievement tests and the WASL are reported here. A description of the WASL and the Certificate of Mastery and an assessment schedule for the Tahoma District is included. A calendar of assessments that will be given to Tahoma students. A description of the State Essential Academic Learning Requirements and a complete description of Tahoma's specific Grade Level EALRs is given in this section. The Tahoma district offers various special programs including the Reading Assistance Program, the Discovery program for the highly capable, an Integrated Program Block for grade 9, the Endeavor Program for 10th graders, the Outdoor Academy, Advanced Placement courses and more. Professional Staff Development A list of courses offered for teachers in (and out) of the Tahoma School District including an opportunity to register for classes on-line via e-mail. The teacher's desk is where you can find online resources for Health & Fitness, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, The Arts and more. The Tahoma District offers tours of the Tahoma District which include a presentation of the Integrated Curriculum.
