Reading Assistance Program - R.A.P.
The Reading Assistance Program (R.A.P.) is designed to provide elementary age children with extra assistance to boost reading skills. Students are referred for R.A.P based on individual testing done by the classroom teacher. Services include intensive tutoring by trained assistants for 15-30 minutes each day or every other day and parent support for using home reading resources. Children may also receive services before school as well as during the school day. The program is funded by Federal Title I and state Learning Assistance Program funds.
During R.A.P. instructional time, students will learn a variety of reading strategies using high interest materials. Strategies and skills include phonics, word recognition, sentence structure, vocabulary, and comprehension with the goal of students becoming independent readers within normal reading ranges for their grade level.
For more information about the R.A.P. program, please contact your child's teacher or the school reading specialist. General questions may also be directed to the district Reading Coordinator, Ann Fletcher at 425-413-3400.
