EALR #1: The student understands and applies the concepts and procedures of mathematics.
1.1 Number Sense
  • Counts and writes to 10,000.
  • Counts by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s and 100’s forward and backward from any 3-digit number.
  • Identifies odd and even numbers up to 3-digits.
  • Writes dictated numbers up to 4 & 5-digits.
  • Solves missing addends.
  • Adds 3 addends.
  • Adds 1 digit number to any 2-digit number.
  • Solves complements of 10 (26 + = 30; 50 = 32 + ).
  • Devises a solution strategy for differences between 2-digit numbers.
  • Explores strategies to add two 2-digit numbers.
  • Explores strategies to subtract two 2-digit numbers.
  • Recalls addition facts to 18 and subtraction facts from 18.
  • Uses number grid (+1, -1, +10, -10).
  • Identifies ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands.
  • Uses physical models, pictures, and symbols to represent place value to 100’s.
  • Estimates to the nearest hundred.
  • Identifies and shades fractions ½, 1/3, ¼, 1/5 of region.
  • Solves "equal sharing" division problems.
1.2 Measurement
  • Measures in inches and centimeters to the nearest ½ with ruler or tape measure.
  • Converts data from inches to feet.
  • Uses meter/yard stick correctly.
  • Shows coins for a given amount.
  • Counts combinations of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollar.
  • Records amounts in cent and dollar notation.
  • Solves money change problems counting forward or backward.
  • Uses equivalent coins to show money amounts.
  • Tells time to the one minute interval.
  • Reads F° and C° temperature on a thermometer.
  • Finds perimeter of simple polygons.
  • Recognizes units of capacity (cup, pint, quart, gallon, and liter).

1.3 Geometric Sense

  • Identifies common 3-D shapes.
  • Identifies lines of symmetry.
  • Constructs and names line segments.
  • Classifies three-dimensional shapes by their bases.

1.4 Probability and Statistics

  • Displays data in a tally chart or bar graph.
  • Plots data on a bar graph.
  • Finds the middle value of a set.
  • Compares quantities from bar graphs.
1.5 Algebraic Sense
  • Uses comparison symbols < > = correctly.
  • Understands and completes What’s My Rule patterns.
  • Recognizes and continues patterns of numbers and objects.
  • Completes number sentences using +, -, = .
  • Understands equivalent number names (11=6+5).
EALR #2: The student uses mathematics to define and solve problems.
2.1 Investigate Situations
  • Searches for patterns.
  • Uses the following problem-solving strategies:
    • guess and check
    • draw a picture
    • use objects
2.2 Formulate Questions
  • Identifies questions to be answered in familiar situations.
2.3 Construct Solutions
  • Organizes relevant information in order to solve a problem.
  • Finds solutions to simple problems.
EALR #3: The student uses mathematical reasoning.
3.1 Analyze Information
  • Interprets, compares and contrasts information in familiar situations (ex. weather graph).
  • Uses models, patterns and known facts to validate thinking.
3.2 Predict and Infer
  • Predicts solutions.
3.3 Draw Conclusions and Verify
  • Considers whether a conclusion answers the problem.
  • Uses estimation to check reasonableness of answers.
EALR #4: The student communicates knowledge and understanding in both everyday and mathematical language.
4.1 Gather Information
  • Collects information.
  • Assesses mathematical information from pictures, diagrams and models.
4.2 Organize and Interpret
  • Reviews information through discussion and writing.
4.3 Represent and Share
  • Expresses ideas by using pictures and models.
  • Explains solution and thought processes orally and in writing.
EALR #5: The student understands how mathematical ideas connect to other subject areas and real-life situations.
5.1 Relate Concepts and Procedures Within Mathematics
  • Makes connections between different mathematical content areas (ex. addition and subtraction).
5.2 Relate concepts and Procedures to Other Disciplines
  • Recognizes mathematical patterns in familiar situations (ex. compares monthly temperatures).
5.3 Relate Concepts and Procedures to Real-Life
  • Gives examples of how math is used in everyday life (ex. reading a thermometer).
  • Uses a calculator to add three or more 2-digit numbers.
  • Uses a calculator to enter and compute amounts of money.
