EALR #1: The student understands and applies the concepts and procedures of mathematics.
1.1 Number Sense
  • Counts to 1,000 .
  • Identifies whole numbers from 0-20 on a number line .
  • Adds and subtracts equations using a number line .
  • Sequences missing numbers on a number line .
  • Counts backwards from 100 .
  • Counts by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s from any 2-digit number .
  • Writes dictated numbers up to 3-digits .
  • Identifies odd and even numbers up to 2-digits .
  • Tells and writes addition and subtraction stories.
  • Uses place value words: ones, tens, hundreds .
  • Uses number grid (+1, -1, +10, -10) .
  • Uses objects to make fractions ½, ¼.
  • Estimates objects to the nearest ten .
  • Recalls facts with sums and differences from 9.
1.2 Measurement
  • Explores measurement with non standard units .
  • Measures in inches and centimeters to the nearest ½ in. or cm.
  • Counts combinations of pennies, nickels, and dimes.
  • Records coin amounts in cent and dollar notation.
  • Shows equivalent amounts of money using different coin combinations.
  • Identifies money: 1¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, $1.00, $2.00, $5.00, $10.00.
  • Tells time to the ½ hr., ¼ hr., and 5 minute interval.
1.3 Geometric Sense
  • Identifies three dimensional shapes (cone, sphere, cylinder, cube).
  • Compares and contrasts three dimensional shapes.
  • Uses a straight edge to construct a line segment.
  • Describes polygons with introduced vocabulary (corners, curves, inside, outside, etc.).

1.4 Probability and Statistics

  • Uses concrete and picture models to create graphs.
  • Collects and displays data using tally marks.
  • Give examples of certain and uncertain events.
1.5 Algebraic Sense
  • Uses >, < or = to establish relationships.
  • Understands and completes What’s My Rule patterns.
  • Completes parts of a fact family triangle.
  • Recognizes and continues patterns of numbers and objects.
  • Reads, writes and uses number sentences (3+4=___ , ___=4+3).
EALR #2: The student uses mathematics to define and solve problems.
2.1 Investigate Situations
  • Searches for patterns.
  • Explores problem-solving strategies.
2.2 Formulate Questions
  • Identifies questions to be answered in familiar situations.
2.3 Construct Solutions
  • Contributes to group efforts in finding solutions.
  • Organizes relevant information in order to solve a problem.
EALR #3: The student uses mathematical reasoning.
3.1 Analyze Information
  • Uses models, patterns and known facts to validate thinking,
  • Compares and contrasts information.
3.2 Predict and Infer
  • Predicts solutions.
3.3 Draw Conclusions and Verify
  • Considers whether a conclusion answers the problem.
  • Checks for accuracy of solution.
EALR #4: The student communicates knowledge and understanding in both everyday and mathematical language.
4.1 Gather Information
  • Collects needed information.
  • Accesses information from pictures, diagrams, and models.
4.2 Organize and Interpret
  • Reviews gathered information through discussion or writing.
4.3 Represent and Share
  • Uses pictures or models to represent thinking.
  • Explains solution and thought processes orally and in writing.
EALR #5: The student understands how mathematical ideas connect to other subject areas and real-life situations.
5.1 Relate Concepts and Procedures Within Mathematics
  • Makes connections between different mathematical areas (ex. addition and subtraction).
5.2 Relate concepts and Procedures to Other Disciplines
  • Recognizes mathematical patterns and ideas in other content areas.
5.3 Relate Concepts and Procedures to Real-Life
  • Gives examples of how math is used in everyday life.
  • Demonstrates use of a calculator (+, -, memory key).
