Tahoma Arts Visioning Summit 2000
Why a Performing Arts Center?
We need a theater to accommodate the quality production in our school and community programming
It will attract larger productions of exceptional quality
To increase the capability of the community and the school district to present the performing arts
It will encourage growth in the community
It will provide a venue for those in the audience to hear and see a variety of performers and performances
Why not make this a High School Auditorium?
To provide a facility which is capable of handling multiple types of performances (drama, musicals, dance, orchestras, band, vocal)
Tahoma School District is not allowed to host any league music events without a large enough (750-1000 seats), high quality Performing Arts Center
To give children of our community more opportunities to be exposed to the arts through groups within and from outside our community
Create an economic center for community
It is up to us to shape our community. Do we want to be more than a shopping mall, bedroom community?
Provide community "centerpiece", physical location prominent to emphasize importance
Provide close by entertainment for our retirement population.
The current THS auditorium is NOT an acceptable substitute for a Performing Arts Center. Our students deserve a decent facility to perform in
3 hours on folding chairs just does not cut it
The audience sitting next to the orchestrathe instruments drown out performers
Show sense of community pride and focal point for ALL arts
Quality Facilities = Quality Students
Quality Facility = Quality Productions
All community members will benefit from the opportunity to participate in and or attend a variety of performances
To provide opportunities for Maple Valley talent to grow, and existing talent opportunities to perform
For our High School students to perform in
Our local dance academy rents a Performing Arts Center (Auburn) for their recital (100s of dancers). Lets keep them here in Maple Valley
We could have a community theater company if we had a Performing Arts Center
Communitys need for multi-use space plus storage
Have large place so community can come together
It is a necessary extension to showcase school and community arts endeavors
Multi-usesdesigned to accommodate the schools and community
It will provide a future for the upcoming artists in our community
Such a facility would become the glue of our cultural/artistic pride in the greater Maple Valley area.
Tahoma School District, along with the Greater Maple Valley Area, needs a state-of-the-art facility with technically current equipment for instructional program enhancement, performances, vocational/technical programs, additional classroom space, conference facility, community use, theater, dance, music, film, and variety shows. Such a facility will serve as a home for the Arts and other programming, being aesthetically pleasing and incorporating visual arts into its design and structure.
