Sixty participants came together at Tahoma High School on Monday, January 24th to begin building a vision for a future Performing Arts Center in our schools/community. Participants included representation from:
schools students, parents, and staff
city government
county programs
community center
local organizations
interested citizens
The Tahoma Arts Summit was open to all and was promoted throughout the schools and community via news articles, flyers, word of mouth, and the community center reader board.
January 1999 1st Arts Summit held at TSD Central Services Center
80+ participants representing music, drama, visual arts, media arts, and dance convened to build a strategic arts initiative for TSD, naming goals and activities that would enable the Arts to become a more integral part of our schools and community.
February March 1999 Arts Action Team (representative membership from summit) took all the Arts Summit input and wrote this into a Strategic Arts Initiative which included a vision statement, four overarching goals that encompass all areas of the arts, and then action plans for each arts discipline.
March 1999 present TSD Arts Advisory Committee (representative membership from the summit) meets regularly to oversee the working of the TSD Arts Initiative.
September 1999 Arts Reception/Progress Report meeting for TSD Arts Staff.
January 2000 2nd Annual Arts Visioning Summit to focus on the top proposal that came from the 1999 Arts Summit to build a performing arts center to showcase the Arts in our schools and in the greater Maple Valley Community. Angela Ramsey, Tahoma Arts Coordinator, facilitated the evenings visioning activities with presentations by:
Participants provided the following input as to how such a facility might be used 365 days a year by our schools and community. In addition, key questions generated a large volume of responses.
The final Summit activity allowed small focus teams to identify next steps in the process of obtaining a Performing Arts Center for our Schools and Community.
