Artists in Residence

Pia Hong-Seeger, a local Korean Artist, has been working with students at CRES for the past two months. This work is part of a special grant in collaboration with Northwest Folk Life, funded through a King County Cultural Arts Grant, which paid for the artist's salary to be in all 4th grade classrooms for 8 learning sessions, across TSD. All CRES 4th grade students performed traditional Korean dance and drumming in a culminating celebration of learning. Ruth Sullivan, Lead Teacher with the project at CRES involved all seven 4th grade classes in a colorful, moving demonstration of the Korean culture in action. Fourth Grade students have been studying about Asia during the past two and a half months as a regular part of their World Community Integrated Studies.

Lora
Chiorah-Dye, a master performer from Zimbabwe will engage all third
graders in Tahoma through their experiencing traditions of the Shona
people through the integration of dance, music, percussion, storytelling
and singing. This experience
will take place during the Africa Integrated Unit studies taking place in
each classroom.
