There are two preschool programs located at LWES, the Early Childhood Educational Assistance Program and the Special Education developmental preschool.

Early Childhood Educational Assistance Program (ECEAP)
ECEAP is an early childhood educational program that provides free preschool education, health and nutrition services and family support to eligible children and their families. The programs are funded by Washington State and are meant to serve children in foster care or have parents with limited incomes who are working or are in school. The majority of children enrolled in ECEAP are four years old by August 31st. For additional information, you can contact Mary Grover at 413-3577.

Special Education Developmental Preschool
Lake Wilderness Elementary School offers a district wide program for children ages 3-5 with significant developmental delays in one or more of the following areas:

  • Social development
  • Adaptive (self help) development
  • Cognitive Development
  • Fine and Gross Motor or Physical development
  • Communication (Language/Speech) development.

The program offers a variety of services from individual communication and/or motor therapy sessions, to a classroom preschool experience.

Placement in a special education Preschool program is based on an evaluation completed by qualified specialists. Children can be referred for an evaluation from a variety of sources such as parents, day care center, Head Start, ECEAP, hospitals, developmental centers, etc. This process goes on during the entire school year. For more information, contact Peggy McCool at 413-3579 or Tahoma School District Special Education Department at 413-3415.
