HEY, PARENTS!!!!!,
DID YOU KNOW......?
Parents have many questions about what to expect during their students high
school career...it is impossible to list everything that will happen during
the next few years, but we have noted a few of the bigger events!
SENIORS
During the Senior year,
your student will--
- Complete the STEP project - get a copy of the timeline, because this
is a big time commitment
- SAT, ACT testing must be done - information resources are in the
counseling center
- Meet scholarship deadlines and summaries - publication dates, etc are
available in the counseling office (parents, stay informed during this
process)
- Apply to colleges (earlier is better than later)
- Count down for graduation, stay informed about ordering graduation
gowns
- Stay focused on the ultimate goal--it becomes increasingly difficult
as the year continues and "senioritis" sets in!
- Track extra-curricular activities and community service activities for
college applications
JUNIORS
During the Junior
year, your student will--
- Complete an oral history project
- Take PSAT, or SAT and/or ACT (dates available in counseling center)
- Think about a class ring
- Visit college campuses, find out what specific classes are needed for
entrance
- Become familiar with the counseling and career center resources - they
are there to help you (and this means parents, too)
- Start community service
- Need to double-check that they will meet all curriculum requirements
for graduation (make an appointment with the counseling office)
- Be sure to view the seniors' STEP project displays to get ideas for
next year...it happens sooner than you think!
- Track extra-curricular activities and community service activities for
college applications
SOPHMORES
During the Sophmore
year, your student will--
- Need to buy a planner and use it from now on
- Consider taking the PSAT (dates are in the counseling center)
- Don't put off hard
- Do consider tutoring if needed
- Job shadow in the spring
- Start community service (this is becoming very important for college
and scholarship applications)

three years
