I “PAWS” to Read

Tiger’s Reward Reading Program

Shadow Lake PTA and Teachers are sponsoring a reading program for our students and we encourage you to help your kids join in the fun of reading!!

Criteria:

  • Students must read at least 20 minutes a day for any 20 days of each month outside of school. This includes independent reading, reading out loud, or being read to; and any reading material is acceptable!
  • Students will complete a log sheet as they read and have their parents sign off at the end of the month that they did the reading. Log sheets can be turned into the students’ teachers or submitted into a box available in the library and front office.
  • PTA volunteers will process reading log sheets monthly. The first month the student participates they will receive a key chain with a paw medallion. A new medallion will be awarded for each additional month completed. At the end of the program year, the students will have a full chain of paws. Lost medallions cannot be replaced, so please have your student treat them with care.
  • Students who complete a month of reading will have their name posted throughout the school on special “I PAWS TO READ” paw prints. These paw prints will be color coordinated to grade level so students can find their name more easily.
  • Reading Logs will be available in the school library for pick up at any time during the month and will come home in the first Thursday packet of each month. Return completed log in sheets to school by the 3 rd of the month following the reading and medallions will be handed out by the 15 th of that month. (ex: November reading logs will be due by December 3 rd, and medallions will be delivered to students by December 15 th)
  • The program will run from October through May. Students who complete 6 out of the 7 possible months will qualify for special end of the year rewards.
  • Watch for opportunities to support this program through volunteer time and donations.

Let’s get everyone’s eyes in a book!
