MathThe Tahoma School District uses several resources to teach math. Listed below are the resources with a brief description about each. Everyday Mathematics: Everyday Mathematics' curriculum is based on spiral levels of understanding from simple explorations to advanced understanding of concepts and skills. Frequently students are asked to explain how they got the answers, or to try to find another way to get the same answer. The program also utilizes discussion, daily routines, year-long projects, partner and small group activities, games, manipulative, and home-school partnerships. Building Math Fluency The Problem-solver: Resources that teach strategies for solving multi-step problems. Provides the students with a framework fro explaining their thinking. Math Exemplars: Word problems that mirror the prompts used on the WASL testing. They require the student to be able to read for key content, decide on the skills, strategies, and operations needed to solve the problem. Moreover, the student must clearly and concisely explain their thinking in words, numbers, or drawings. |
